Through Our Eyes: A Resident Reflects on Prairie City Landing’s Exciting Events and Adventures Program

As we grow older, maintaining an active and engaged lifestyle becomes increasingly crucial for our overall well-being—physically, mentally, and emotionally. At Prairie City Landing, we recognize the significance of offering an environment that not only stimulates but also nurtures our residents, ensuring they continue to flourish.

We are dedicated to pushing the boundaries of what’s possible. We understand that true engagement goes far beyond just organizing game or movie nights.

That’s why we’ve delved into the advantages of active participation and designed a program that not only keeps our residents excited but also empowers them to contribute their own creative ideas.

Senior Activities: The Prairie City Landing Difference

If you think Bingo is the only activity happening at Bruceville Point, you’re in for a surprise. Our Events and Adventure program is all about the unique and extraordinary. Residents have the option to explore activities like beekeeping, paddleboarding, drum circles, or even karaoke.

Where do our ideas come from? Our committed activity director is always ahead of the curve. We also prioritize learning about our residents’ lifelong passions, dreams, and bucket list items. Share your idea with us, and we’ll do our best to bring it to life.

The 5 Benefits of Prairie City Landing’s Events and Adventures Program

Here are just a few of the key benefits our senior activities provide:

  1. Physical Well-being: Regular physical activities are essential for maintaining and improving strength, flexibility, balance, and coordination—all crucial in preventing falls, reducing the risk of heart disease and diabetes, and enhancing overall physical health.
  1. Mental Health: Staying active and involved can have a profound impact on cognitive function and help lower the risk of dementia. At Prairie City Landing, we offer activities that stimulate the mind, such as puzzles, games, reading, and learning new skills.
  1. Emotional well-being: Social interactions and community engagement are vital for emotional health. Joining group activities, clubs, and social events can help alleviate feelings of loneliness and depression while fostering a sense of belonging and purpose.
  1. Social Connectivity: Building and maintaining relationships is key to a joyful, healthy life. The group activities and social events at Bruceville Point provide the perfect opportunity to make new friends, strengthen existing connections, and build a supportive community.
  1. Sense of Fulfillment: Participating in meaningful activities offers a sense of purpose and satisfaction. Whether it’s volunteering, gardening, or pursuing a beloved hobby, having goals and responsibilities contributes to a more fulfilling and enriched life.

Prairie City Landing’s Events and Adventures Program vs. staying active at home

When individuals and their families consider senior living options, the ability to stay active and engaged within a community is often a top priority.

Comparing the likelihood of sustaining an active, engaged lifestyle at home versus at Prairie City Landing can help determine which environment is the most suitable.

Isolation vs. Social Opportunities

Living at Home: Older adults who live at home often face social isolation, which can lead to feelings of loneliness and depression. Challenges like limited mobility, lack of transportation, and the absence of nearby friends or family can further exacerbate these issues, negatively impacting overall health.

Prairie City Landing: Here, residents are surrounded by peers and have countless opportunities for social interaction. Whether it’s joining a morning walking group, attending community events, or enjoying a chat with neighbors over lunch, we provide a vibrant social environment that enhances daily life.

Access to Activities

Living at Home: At home, seniors may struggle to find and access a variety of activities and resources. Locating suitable exercise classes, hobby groups, or entertainment options can be difficult to manage independently.

Prairie City Landing: Our community offers a diverse range of structured programs and activities designed to meet our residents’ interests and abilities. From fitness classes and art workshops to book clubs and social gatherings, there’s always something happening. With easy access to various amenities, residents can effortlessly stay active and engaged.

Motivation to Participate

Living at Home: Without the right encouragement and structure, it can be challenging for seniors to stay motivated to remain active. A sedentary lifestyle can easily become the norm when living alone, leading to potential declines in both physical and mental well-being.

Prairie City Landing: Our community’s supportive environment naturally fosters motivation and encourages residents to stay active. The companionship of both staff and fellow residents makes it easier to maintain a healthy, engaged lifestyle every day.

Events and Adventures Program: Our residents’ point of view

Staying active is crucial for a fulfilling and healthy life, especially as we age. While living at home can present challenges, our senior activities help residents live their best lives.

To illustrate the positive impact of our programs, here is a personal story from our resident:

  • Barbara P was in a Wii bowling league prior to moving to Prairie City Landing and when considering the move to senior living she said, “If you get Wii Bowling, I’m in.” With that in mind, Prairie City Landing implemented Wii Bowling and she now enjoys playing once a week with her group of friends. She also has enjoyed learning Rummikub and playing Mexican Train with friends every Sunday.
