Prairie City Landing FAQs
About Prairie City Landing
Q: What does being an award-winning senior living community mean?
A: We’re so proud of our community! Each year, two local publications, the Folsom Telegraph and Style Magazine, run their “best of Folsom” contests. For eight years, Prairie City Landing has taken home the top honor for Senior Living in at least one, if not both, of these contests. This recognition means a lot to us—and to the wonderful residents and families who make our community shine. Thanks for cheering us on!
Q: What does it mean to be SageCare Certified?
A: All of our team members receive annual training to support an environment where older LBGTQ+ adults feel included and safe. We value diversity, promote equity, and foster inclusion. We strive to treat everyone with respect. For more information, visit our All Are Welcome page.
Location & Accessibility
Q: Where are you located? Is it easy to get to?
A: You’ll find Prairie City Landing at 645 Willard Drive, just off I-50, in Folsom (right by Folsom High School), with grocery stores, restaurants, and parks a stone’s throw away. Historic downtown Folsom, shopping centers such as Palladio, and hospitals are all a quick drive. The Sacramento International Airport is about a 40-minute drive.

Cost & Pricing
Q: How much does senior living cost each month?
A: We keep things easy: our monthly rates range from $5,950 to $11,800, depending on your chosen apartment layout. All residents enjoy access to amazing amenities—fitness, dining, events, and more. Did we mention our housekeeping and transportation services? All included. If you’d like a little support (like help with medications or other daily activities), we will discreetly deliver those services to you in your apartment for an additional fee—no moving required! Assisted Living services are an extra $850 each month, which covers all meals and care collaboration, plus personal care fees based on your customized support plan. And if memory care becomes helpful, Harbor offers extra support in a secure, engaging setting. For more specific pricing information, please call us or download our pricing sheet.
Q: What’s included in the price of an apartment?
A: Explore the possibilities! Your apartment comes with a full calendar of events, fitness classes led by our energetic team, three dining venues for delicious meals, transportation services, and expert housekeeping. Safety? You’ll find caring staff here 24/7. Residents on a support plan have all meals covered; independent folks receive a generous meal allowance. You can always order extra meals at friendly prices. Most importantly, you’ll live among some of the most generous and interesting people you’ll ever meet! See our Cost Comparison Worksheet to compare senior living to the cost of living at home.
Q: Does Medicare or Medi-Cal pay for senior living?
A: Funding senior living is complicated. We suggest talking with a financial planner to understand your options. That said, Medicare or Medi-Cal does not typically fund the room and board portion of senior living. Other communities might accept Medi-Cal to help cover the care or assisted living services. If you are a veteran or the spouse of a veteran, first, thank you for your service. You may be entitled to veterans’ benefits. Learn more about your funding options in our Guide: Funding Senior Care & Housing.
Dining & Hospitality
Q: Do you offer dining at the community?
A: Oh yes! From-scratch meals are served daily from 7 am to 7 pm in three unique venues. Build your own breakfast, try a chef’s special, or explore seasonal menus—there’s always something to delight your taste buds.
Q: Do you serve alcohol in the community?
A: Yes, wine and beer are available in our dining venues if you’d like to enjoy a toast or share a glass.
Q: Can guests join me for a meal?
A: Of course! Good meals are even better shared. Invite friends and family, and enjoy reasonable prices, fun company, and, just maybe, our delectable desserts!
Transportation & Accessibility
Q: Do you offer transportation?
A: Getting around is easy! Hop on the group bus for local adventures—shopping, museums, or even a day trip to Lake Tahoe. We also have a vehicle to assist in driving to local (within a 10-mile radius) medical and dental appointments. For all other trips, our Concierge at the front desk is happy to help arrange transportation.

Living Options Comparison
Q: What is independent living?
A: Independent living is a little like college, only better! You can choose to participate in classes and events that help you grow socially, physically, and intellectually. (You can also choose to skip out—with no consequences!) Unlike college, you get to live in a spacious apartment with your own kitchen, washer/dryer, and plenty of storage. And meals at Prairie City Landing are delicious, made-from-scratch, restaurant-quality experiences—nothing like a college cafeteria. Like college, the best part is the people you’ll meet who will become your dear friends, adding to your life in ways you can’t imagine. Learn more about Independent Living in our Guide: Just the Facts about Independent Living.
Q: How is independent living different than assisted living?
A: Both independent living and assisted living offer residents the chance to live in a community with people who share their interests and offer friendship and support. Usually, independent living apartments include a full kitchen or kitchenette. In assisted living communities, apartments are typically smaller. At Prairie City Landing, we believe in assisted living as a service, not a place. All of our apartments are licensed, so if you might need support later, we will bring those services to you discreetly to your apartment without the need to move.
Assisted living typically offers support with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including dressing, personal hygiene, and taking medications on a prescribed schedule, as well as meals, housekeeping, and transportation services. Additionally, for residents receiving assisted living services, our care partners collaborate and communicate with families and medical providers to ensure continuity of care.
Q: What’s the difference between independent living and an active adult community?
A: An independent living community and an active adult or retirement community are similar in that they are usually age-restricted apartment homes that allow residents to live life on their own terms with similar people. One big difference is that most active adult communities do not have commercial kitchens on-site, so dining services are not available. Most independent living communities have a more robust events or activities schedule, going beyond fitness classes or trivia night. Transportation services might vary between independent living and active adult as well, as most active adult communities assume their residents drive.
Q: What is assisted living?
A: At Prairie City Landing, assisted living is a service, not a location. All of our apartments are licensed, so if a resident benefits from some support, we’ll deliver it discreetly in your home on your terms. Assisted living services are those things that support a person’s autonomy. These are often referred to as Activities of Daily Living (ADLs). This includes support with personal hygiene, dressing, and taking medications on a prescribed schedule. You also get access to meals in all our tempting dining locations, as well as housekeeping and transportation services. Our care partners collaborate with you, your family, and your medical providers to ensure a continuity of care and open communication. But the best part? A little support allows you to say yes to those things that intrigue you—whether that’s flower arranging, line dancing, or building models. Learn more about Assisted Living in our Guide: Just the Facts about Assisted Living.
Q: How do I know if I am ready for senior living?
A: Curious, but not ready yet? You’re in the right place! We hear “not yet” all the time. We encourage you to think about what you want your next 10, 20, or 30 years to look like. What do you want to accomplish? What are potential obstacles? What’s most important to you? Have these conversations with loved ones early, long before you make any decisions.
We like to say a move to senior living is right when it expands your world and offers you new opportunities.
And remember that a move to senior living isn’t just about you. It’s a family decision. A move should make an older person’s life bigger and reduce the worry and tension an adult child or caregiver might feel. Check out more information and a few helpful checklists in our Should You Stay or Should You Go Guide.
Q: What is memory care?
A: Memory care is a safe, secure building or neighborhood that caters to older adults experiencing cognitive decline. Care partners in Harbor, our memory care, are specially trained to work with people with memory loss, including Alzheimer’s and dementia. Walk into Harbor and enjoy its warm, homelike setting with its own secure courtyard. Do you enjoy golfing? Then you’ll love our putt-putt area! We incorporate all the vibrant aspects of senior living in our Harbor setting, including weekly trips to local spots, fitness classes, and participation in community-wide events. Learn more in our Guide: Just the Facts about Memory Care.
Q: How is memory care different than assisted living?
A: Memory care looks a lot like assisted living. You’ll benefit from personalized, compassionate support with the things that might be a challenge, such as taking medications on a regular schedule, personal hygiene, or dressing. In addition, our secure setting is the right environment to feel safe to explore without the sensation of being overwhelmed. Specially structured events and activities keep older adults who are experiencing cognitive decline socially, physically, and intellectually engaged.
Q: How is assisted living or memory care different than skilled nursing?
A: Skilled nursing is often prescribed after an acute illness or injury. In these settings, patients receive medical attention and often partake in rehabilitation services, usually for a limited time. Skilled nursing is designed to help a person transition back to their regular living situation.
Assisted living and memory care are communities where people live. In assisted living and memory care, residents receive support with what are called Activities of Daily Living (or ADLs). These include help with dressing, personal hygiene, and medication management. Residents also enjoy meals prepared for them, housekeeping services, and transportation services. In addition, our team of care partners collaborates with families and medical teams to ensure continuity of care and support open communication.
Q: How do I know what type of care I might need?
A: Determining the right type of care is a conversation with each person, their family members, and their medical providers. Before moving into a senior living community, your doctor will complete an assessment, known as a 602, with you. With this information, familiarity with your daily routines, your plans for the future, and any challenges you might be facing, we will work with you to develop a customized care plan. Our care plan offers just the right support to ensure you get to do what you want, living with autonomy and agency.
Q: What type of living options do you offer?
A: We’re here to enrich your journey. Independent living is all about choice and freedom with no daily support. (Of course, you’re always welcome to enjoy a meal in the dining room, pop into a fitness class, or take advantage of our transportation services!) Assisted living adds that helping hand with daily tasks or health needs, customized to support your independence. Memory care focuses on residents with cognitive changes, offering specialized support and safe spaces. If you want more details or a side-by-side comparison, our team is happy to discuss all the details with you.
What does the moving process involve?
Q: What’s the process for moving to senior living look like?
A: We know each person is on their own journey, so we take the time to get to know you. What’s most important to you? What do you want from the decades ahead of you? What is a challenge you’re facing? Our counselors will ask these questions to help guide your next steps.
The best way to know if a place feels like home is to visit it yourself. We invite you to schedule a tour, meet some of our amazing residents, and hear directly from them what living at Prairie City Landing is like.
Before moving, licensed buildings require a 602 form to be completed by your doctor. We want to ensure we are a good fit and can meet your needs.
If you decide Prairie City Landing is where you’d like to call home, we charge a $5000 community deposit, payable by check.
We’ll meet with you before your move-in date to walk through the paperwork. And at any time, if you have questions about the size of your apartment or want to stop by, please just let us know!
Sometimes, people find the right fit and move within a couple of weeks. Most of the time, people spend months gathering information, touring communities, and deciding on the right home for them.
Q: What should I look for on a senior community tour?
A: First, welcome! We’re happy to introduce you to our favorite people! When you visit, we’ll meet you and learn a little more about you. Then, we’ll walk through our community, highlighting the amenities, and show you a couple of available apartments. After you have a feel for Prairie City Landing, we’ll sit down and discuss our pricing and answer any questions you have. This is a big decision, and we don’t want to rush you. Most tours take an hour. And if you have time, we invite you to stay for a meal.
Learn more about what to look for on a tour in our blog.
Q: Do you offer downsizing services?
A: Downsizing is a lot of work, but the reward is great! Our residents have partnered with local companies that help older adults match their desired lifestyle to the stuff they own. We’d be happy to connect you with someone! And if you’d like to do it yourself, our blog offers some tips.
Q: How can I best support my parent or loved one as they age?
A: First, thank you for your care and support! Caring for others—no matter their age—is a lot of work and can be both stressful and rewarding beyond measure. Sometimes there are not just enough hours in the day! We get it.
They say it takes a village to raise a child, but in reality, it takes a village—period. We’re here to be part of your village, acting as a partner in caring for those you love.
