Our Evolving Dining Program Creates Connection and Joy

In our enthusiasm for the adventures we enjoy—visiting the California State Railroad Museum, experiencing flight at iFLY, and dancing at happy hour, to name just a few recent ones—we might occasionally overlook one of the most important social opportunities at Prairie City Landing. Every day, often multiple times, people gather around tables to share a meal.

Our Culinary Program, like all of our programmatic elements, is constantly evolving. Our day-of-the-week special is one way we add novelty. Each day, on a three-week rotation, we offer a dinner special in addition to the full menu loaded with options. Also, our menus change seasonally, guided by feedback from our residents. Before we add something new to the menu, we run it as a special, gather comments and feedback from residents, and make any changes. This way, we are confident that the new addition satisfies our residents’ tastes.
Another new element of our Culinary Program is the Prix Fixe menu. Once a month, a cook designs and prepares a three-course meal. The meal begins with an appetizer, soup, or salad, includes a main entrée, and concludes with a delectable dessert. Chef Conrad has offered cooks the chance to design their own menus. For those who create and execute the menus, it’s an opportunity to further develop their culinary skills and showcase their creativity.
So far, we’ve had some very tempting menus! Southern comfort food (including a corn salad, an entrée of shrimp and grits, and finishing with chocolate beignets) and a celebratory Filippino feast featuring roasted pork belly are just a couple of the delights the culinary team has created. They were so tasty, residents were asking if they could have any leftovers for lunch the next day!
Dining at Prairie City Landing is one of the great gifts of living and working in our community. (Fun fact: All team members get to enjoy a meal each shift.) While the food is delicious, the choices are plentiful, and the presentation is beautiful, meals go beyond what is on the plate.

Whether you gather in the Rendezvous Bistro, Natoma Café, or Cypress Dining Room, you are sure to find an experience that nourishes beyond the healthful ingredients on the plate.

In our latest video, “Meals Are Meant to be Shared,” learn more about one of the best parts of living at Prairie City Landing—the dining experience!
You can explore more about our dining program on our website, where you can download sample menus and see our dining venues. The best way to learn more, of course, is to stop by and experience it for yourself! We’d be happy to host you for lunch!
